ART OF ATARI
Production Supervision | Art Direction (deluxe edition) | Ad Design
In 2016, Dynamite released its Art of Atari retrospective. In addition to project managing and handling all communications with the printer for scheduling, printing, and materials on this title, I also came up with the concept for the design of the deluxe, slipcase edition that designer Jason Adam and the printer did a beautiful job of bringing to life. My idea was for the book itself to have a unique cover treatment from the standard edition, including a leatherette wrap with a de-bossed tip-on to mimic the look and feel of an old Atari 2600 game cartridge. The slipcase design was then designed in the style of the classic, orange, Atari game packaging. To make it a truly unique package, we also included a new art print by one of the original Atari artists, as well as a Steam code from Atari to unlock their game library.
Additionally, I designed several print and digital promotional pieces for the project. With these, my goal was to make them look like the ads that you would find from your local electronic stores back in the 80's. As a child of the 80's who grew up Atari joystick in-hand, this title was a personal favorite.
